Mentor a Paper is an initiative I have started for 2016 ISOCARP Congress in Durban.

Mentoring Sessions during the coffee breaks at the congress were an opportunity for meetings between the delegates. One of them acted as Mentor, a more experienced ISOCARP member, and the other one was a Mentee, who would like to learn more about the society, and receive guidance on their career and professional development. They had applied to the programme and were matched by us according to their experiences and expectations. The first meeting was a 15 minutes coffee break talk, but many wanted to continue afterwards and stay in touch after the congress.

It is very important to create bridges between generations and facilitate meaningful interactions. Especially for the younger delegates it is very important that they get the one on one time with our seasoned members that have vast experiences as planners and researchers. It is a valuable introduction to the profession and a huge step forward to the Mentees.

Thank you for all that participated in 2016 Durban Congress Mentoring Sessions!
